Fixed price listing or auction? Which one should I choose?

When selling an item on Galeria Savaria, you can choose between two main options: a fixed price listing or an auction. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, and the right choice depends on what you want to achieve with your sale.

Fixed Price Listing

With a fixed price listing, you set the selling price for the item, and buyers can purchase it immediately at that price.

Tip: Enable the best-offer option on your fixed price listing, allowing buyers to make offers. This can increase your chances of a successful sale.

This option has several benefits:

  • Quick sale: If your item is popular and priced appropriately, buyers can purchase it immediately without having to wait for the auction to end.
  • Defined selling price: Since there is no bidding, you can be certain that the item will sell at the price you set, or close to it if you have enabled the best-offer option.
  • Longer listing period: Fixed price items remain available on Galeria Savaria until sold, but for a maximum of 12 months. During this period or after the listing expires, you can easily relist the item. By relisting, your item will appear among newly uploaded items, increasing its visibility.

When should you choose a fixed price listing?

  • If you know the exact value of the item: If you're confident about the market value, a fixed price listing is a good choice.
  • If you need a quick sale: If you need to sell the item quickly or if it's a seasonal item, a fixed price listing is the way to go.

Auction

An auction allows buyers to place bids on your item, with the highest bidder winning the item. This method offers several advantages:

  • Market-driven price: The auction can help determine the true value of your item based on buyer bids. However, it’s advisable to list items in an auction that can attract interest from multiple potential buyers.
  • Attracts interest: A well-set auction can generate excitement and competition, leading to higher bids.
  • Lower starting price: You can start with a lower price if you're unsure of the item's value, encouraging more bidders to get involved.

When should you choose an auction?

  • If you're uncertain of the market value: Auctions can help you determine the true market value of your item through competitive bidding.
  • For popular items: If there is high demand for the item, an auction can increase the final price through bidding competition.
  • For rare or collectible items: Collectors may be willing to pay a premium for items they value highly, making auctions a better option.

Summary

  • Choose a fixed price listing if you're confident in the item's value, need a quick sale, or don’t want to wait for an auction to conclude.
  • Choose an auction if you're unsure of the market value or want to leverage competition among buyers to potentially drive up the price.
