Farkas Bertalan (Gyulaháza, August 2, 1949 –) Hungarian astronaut awarded the Hungarian Saint Stephen Order, a hunter pilot, researcher, astronaut, esperantist. He was the first Hungarian to reach space as part of the Intercosmos program (thus making Hungary the seventh nation to have a representative there). A Hero of the Soviet Union and the Hungarian People's Republic, holder of Ukraine's Golden Star, founding member of the International Astronauts Federation, collaborator of the MTA Intercosmos Council research group, founding member of the Space for Earth Foundation. His most famous experimental program during space travel was Interferon, but the Dóza experiment, produced by KFKI, also yielded many results for future research in our country. His activities have earned international recognition for Hungary, and he continues to participate in popularizing space research. His name is preserved by the asteroid 240757 Farkasberci, discovered by Krisztián Sárneczky on May 26, 2005. This date became significant because on this day in 1980, Farkas Bertalan flew into space.
