György Buczkó, Munkácsy Award-winning glass artist and sculptor

Born August 13, 1950, in Budapest.

Graduated in 1974 from the Hungarian Applied Arts College, Department of Silicates. His mentor was György Gács. From 1974 to 1980, he was a designer at the Salgótarján Glassworks, then a teacher at the Budapest College of Fine and Applied Arts in the Glass Department (1981-1988). He founded the "Living Glassicists" group in 1991, comprising glass design artists. Since the same year, he has organized the Bardudvarnok International Glass Art Workshops and International Glass Symposia. He has been a glass designer at the Tokod Glass Factory since 1997.

He is known for significant public works, but also creates small sculptures and designs glass furniture.

A regular participant in international glass art exhibitions. His works are also part of prestigious foreign collections: Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, USA; Glasmuseum Frauenau; Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art, Sapporo; Kunsthaus am Museum-Studio-Carola von Ham, Cologne; Kunstmuseum im Ehrenhof, Düsseldorf; Kunstsammlungen der Veste Coburg, Coburg
