Kálmán Csohány (Pásztó, January 31, 1925 – Budapest, April 2, 1980)
1947-52 Between 1947 and 1952, he studied graphics at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Budapest. His masters: Gyula hincz, Károly Kofán, Sándor ék and György Konecsni. In his works with a ballad tone, he depicted the world and memories of his homeland with symbolic conciseness. Recurring symbols of his drawings are archetypal elements that appear in archaic folk prayer, in the apocryphal gospels well known among religious people, in the Hungarian folk tradition and in the cultures of other peoples. A significant part of his work is book illustration, individual drawings related to literary works, etchings, lithographs, watercolors. From 1957, he also worked with ceramics in the majolica factory in Hódmezővásárhely. Individual ceramics, bowls and vases came out of his hands. Many institutions in the country created ceramic murals on the walls of their factories. In 2001, a gallery was opened for his works in his homeland, Pashtun. His most important awards: Münkacsy Award (1964, 1967); meritorious artist (1974).
