Anatomical board depicting cattle with the seal of the handbuch der anatomie der tiere für künstler (handbook of animal anatomy for artists) of the Hungarian Royal Hungarian School of Painting for Women. Publisher: dieterich’sche verlagsbuchhandlung, Leipzig, 1898. Illustrator: ellenberger, hermann baum and hermann dittrich. A das rind, tafel 10., Print size 25x31.5 Cm.

Opened in 1871, the national Hungarian Royal School of Model Drawing and Drawing Teacher Training was the first Hungarian art school and drawing teacher training. Since the opening of the model drawing school, it has also accepted female students. The "women's class" consisting of female students operated in one of the classrooms of the institution's building, separated from the male students. Until the 1885/1886 school year, it was the only state-financed institution dealing with higher-level fine arts education for women. At that time, the Minister of Religion and Public Education, Ágos Trefort, created "a Hungarian school for women. A painting course under the leadership of Károly Lotz, which became independent as the Hungarian Royal Women's Painting School from the academic year 1897/1898. From the academic year 1908/1909, the separate status of the master schools was abolished, thus, the women's painting school was merged into the then-established Hungarian Royal College of Fine Arts, which operated under the name Hungarian College of Fine Arts from 1945, and from 2000 its name was Hungarian University of Fine Arts.

The anatomy board is a special relic of the beginning of female art education in Hungary.
