Makrisz zizi (1924 – 2014): prison yard, paper, colored linoleum engraving, marked, in passe-partout, glass in a wooden frame. Indicated lower right: mackerel zizi. Image/print size: 41.5x30 cm, framed size: 61x45.5 cm. A rare work that is not included in auctions and can be found in the collection of the Hungarian National Gallery.
Makrisz zizi (Fabasz, 1924 - Athens, 2014) is a Yugoslavian-born graphic artist, tapestry designer, and mosaic maker. He lived in Hungary and France. He studied at the école des beaux arts in Paris. Her husband Makris was a sculptor of Agamemnon. He moved to Budapest in 1951. He was arrested in Greece in 1960. He spent a year and a half in prison, where he made a series of linoleum and woodcuts. In addition to tapestries, he also created mosaics from 1964, first monumental ones, and from 1974, tableau-sized ones.
He had individual exhibitions in Budapest, Paris, Beijing, Athens, Mexico City, Havana and Washington. Munkácsy Award winner (1959, 1963) and meritorious artist (1984).
His works can be found in the collections of the Hungarian National Gallery and the Museum of Applied Arts.
