Az 1906-ban jóváhagyásra átadott kérvény−
mintegy fél évnyi pihentetés után − jóvá lett hagyva.
Így 1907. augusztus 12-én megtarthatták a várossá
váláshoz nélkülözhetetlen választást.
Azzal, hogy a várossá alakult a nagyközség, az
bizony kötelezettségekkel is járt. Elsőként megtervezték a város címerét, melynek egyik elme, a kétágú horgony, az 1840-ben már a község pecsétjén is
szerepelt. Újpest címere az alábbiak szerint lett
meghatározva: álló, csücskös talpú pajzs vörös mezővel, a vörös mezőben lebegő arany horgony, a
pajzs tetején arany koronával. Újpest színe ettől
kezdve vörös-arany lett.
