The hotel on Erzsébet körút opened in 1896. As the largest hotel in Europe, the Royal Grand Hotel. The hotel, dreamed up by the glück brothers and their associates, had 350 rooms on five floors. During the socialist period, between 1961 and 1991, 1,370,814 guests stayed in it during its thirty years. By the 1990s, the underused, outdated, uneconomical place was closed.
