Prohászka Ottokárt 1905. október 17-én nominálta székesfehérvári püspöknek Ferenc József. 1905. december 11-én erősítette meg a döntést X. Pius pápa, aki Rómában tíz nappal később püspökké is szentelte Prohászkát. Székét hivatalosan 1906. január 21-én foglalta el. Prohászkát 1927-ben, 68 évesen érte a halál.
