Szamosvári József a budapesti Képzőművészeti Főiskolán tanult 1949-1954-ig Hincz Gyulánál és Bencze Lászlónál. Külföldön is végzett tanulmányokat, a többi közt Prágában, Rómában, Franciaországban és Görögországban. Csoportos kiállítások után (Ernst Múzeum, Műcsarnok), önálló tárlata is volt a fővárosban (Fényes Adolf Terem) és vidéken is. 1961-ben a BME Építészmérnöki Karán lett rajztanár, ahol 1991-ig tanított. Művei a Magyar Nemzeti Galériában láthatók.
