A Basilides családban mind a négy gyermeket művészpályára szánták, közülük ketten lettek festők. A Képzőművészeti Főiskolát 1928-ban végezte el, de már 1925-től kiállított, részben a Spirituális Művészek Társaságának tagjaként. 1934-ben római ösztöndíjat kapott. 1938-tól tanított; alapítója volt a Pedagógus Művészeti Stúdiónak és a vörösberényi pedagógus művésztelepnek.
