Székács Zoltán 1940-től 1945-ig a Képzőművészeti Főiskolán Szőnyi István növendéke volt, az utolsó évben Varga Nándor Lajos tanársegédje volt a grafikai tanszéken. 1942-től kezdve rendszeresen állított ki Budapesten és vidéken egyaránt, már főiskolás korában részt vett a fővárosban és Rimaszombaton rendezett tárlatokon, ahol Nagybányán és Felsőbalogon festett képeivel szerepelt.
