About the pictures of Emil Szekers

The duality defined by dream and reality, as a simultaneous phenomenon, is one of the most relevant features of Emil sekéres' pictures. His is a peculiar, surreal world. A logical universe based on a three-dimensional space, in fact an internal universe, the components of which are largely adequate to those that make up our real world, yet somehow different. Others are because the pictorial motifs themselves, despite the milieu creating a real sense of space, are often without depth, i.e. they have a flat character, but they are also different because of their coloring or the system of relationships and proportions between them. Although their form is recognizable - although not in nearly all cases - their meaning is often quite different from what we are used to. The bird, the ram, the trees, the flowers, the human (like) figures do not represent themselves, but the feelings of the painter, his thoughts and emotions that are difficult to verbalize but take concrete forms, which at the same time can be hidden behind fantastic motifs that cannot be experienced elsewhere. . This explains the laws of the specific microcosm of sekéres, which are radically different from those experienced in everyday life, and the internal driving forces of its operation. In this way, it practically does not matter whether what we see is a landscape, or (rarely) a genre or even a still life, because these genres are only forms of expression of the real content, the essence is hidden at a deeper level of interpretation.
