Nikola Dimitrov

As a painter and pianist, I am interested in the interplay between music and painting. The goal of my work is to make music visible in a visual language. The starting point for finding my own visual language was my collaboration with the German composer Gerhard Stäbler. The colors and grid patterns that appeared spontaneously in his music during the painting process later served as inspiration for the characteristic design features that emerged in the works: they provide recurring lines of strokes, water-based constructions, diverse structures and patterns. . These internal orders are echoed by images, texts, melodies, rhythms, beats, pauses, synchronicity and polyphony. The preference for rhythmic events on the background of the image is especially evident in the black-white-gray works. On the other hand, works with colorful lines emphasize gestures, sound and emotionality. The paintings resonate not only with well-known compositions, but also with their own sounds and melodies. From this point of view, the works correspond to the interplay of musical and pictorial inspiration.
