Kálmán Tichy is a painter, graphic artist, writer and journalist, younger brother of painter Gyula Tichy. At the beginning of the century, he studied with Simon Hollósy in Munich, and then graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest. He taught in his hometown, on Rye, until 1920. He founded the museum in Rozsnyó and carried out significant research and exploration work in the ethnography of the Sajó valley, especially describing the construction and decorative arts of the local Palóc people. He moved to Hungary in 1946, and earned a reputation as a graphic artist and etching artist here as well.
