József Burkus was born in 1957 in Bükkszentlászlo.

In 1982, he graduated from Nyíregyháza as a teacher majoring in drawing and biology. His masters were painters: József Koncz, Géza Balogh, and Árpád Bényi. He learned fire enamel from jános Józsa and participated in the work of numerous summer creative camps and group exhibitions.

Already from his high school years (1973), he attended the free school in Zebegény, where he was accepted as a student by the painter Gyula Hincz, and after the master's death he was able to exhibit his paintings in the Hincz Chamber Hall (1986). In Debrecen in 1990, he was awarded a level prize for his fine art work.

In 1990, he moved to Budapest. In 1992, he moved to Switzerland, first to Basel and then to Zurich-Horgen, where he opened his own gallery called "barke", which also provided a place for the introduction of contemporary artists.

He regularly participated in exhibitions in Switzerland, and many articles about his work were published in the Swiss press. Thanks to this, he became a regular collector, and several public institutions bought his works, such as Schweizerischer rentenanstalt (Zürich), the international caritas corp. (Zürich), or the schweizerischer bankverein.

In 1994, the Swiss parliament allowed st. The first casino can be officially opened in Moritz. At this time, at the most prestigious exhibition venue in Switzerland, st. I had an exhibition in the kunsthalle in Moritz (which is also huge in terms of its size). The interior designers of the casino saw my exhibition and then approached me to decorate the place visited by the world's most famous and richest people with my pictures. My works are there to this day. Later this year, I was invited to the Klein Gallery in Zurich for a group exhibition, where my paintings were exhibited alongside the canvases of the legendary Joseph Beuys.

In 1996, he settled in Boca Raton, Florida. Here, one of the prestigious galleries, Addison, signed a contract with him, which meant promotion and exclusivity of sales. This is how he was able to enter the bloodstream of American contemporary art.

Because of the exhibition offers and orders, he moved to New York, where after half a year, the prestigious artspeak professional magazine praised his work.

In 2000, he moved to Budapest, where he was admitted to the national association of Hungarian creative artists. In 2001, the art writer Balázs Feledy wrote a monograph about him with the title "limitless".
A book presentation combined with an exhibition took place in Budapest, in the Vigádo Gallery.

He exhibited in the contemporary gallery in Kecskemét in 2003, and was then invited to the newly built art euro gallery in Szolnok, where he exhibited his latest works in 2004.

In 2007, he was invited to the picture gallery in Kecskemét, which was opened by György Habsburg, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.

In 2008, he had the honor of being invited by the European Parliament to organize an exhibition there, representing our country. Nearly two hundred prominent personalities appeared at the opening. Many national and regional media reported on this event.

This year, the second album featuring his work, written by Zoltán Kálmán Fejér, was published under the title of Hiding Neo Venuses.

In March 2011, in honor of the successive Hungarian presidency, he participated in the collection exhibition of the European Parliament in Brussels.
