Carl v. Karl Bauer

Bauer, Karl-Conrad-Friedrich  (Stuttgart, 1868 - 1942) német festő, rézmetsző, illusztrátor. A stuttgarti képzőművészeti gimnáziumba járt, aztán a Müncheni Művészeti Akadémiára, tanulmányit Párizsban fejezte be 1893-ban a Julian Akadémián. Élt és dolgozott Angliában, Olaszországban, Belgiumban, Hollandiában, A XX. sz. elején visszatért Stuttgartba, és az ottani szecesszió vezető művésze lett./forrás: Internet/

German painter, etcher, lithographer and illustrator, Karl Bauer first studied art at the Gymnasium die Kunstschule in his native Stuttgart. He then entered the Kunstakademie, Munich, and studied under Professor Wilhelm von Lindenschmit. Karl Bauer's education concluded in Paris in 1893 at the Academie Julian. During the following ten years he travelled extensively and both lived and worked in Belgium, Holland, England and Italy.   In the early years of the twentieth century Karl Bauer returned to Stuttgart and became a leading member of the Secessionist movement there. In his paintings and original prints, Karl Bauer proved to be a master of figure studies and portraits. In the latter category he etched and painted Germany's most famous political, scientific and artistic figures, both past and present, such as, Menzel, Boecklin, Bismarck, Nietzsche and Frederick the Great. His services were also called upon to illustrate a number of fine books. Among his best work in this field is Heine's Livre des Chants and The Temptation of Saint Anthony.
